Healthwatch Gloucestershire has an important role as the county’s independent health and care champion which means that we listen to people’s experiences of using health and care services. Through our work we know that people want to be treated as a whole person with both their mental and physical health needs taken care of without being passed from one service to another. On this basis, the news from 2gether NHS Foundation Trust (2g) and Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust (GCS) is welcome if it brings about a more joined up approach to providing care to Gloucestershire people.
Alan Thomas, chair of Healthwatch Gloucestershire said: ‘The integration of mental and physical health provision is, at face value, a positive development, especially in a community setting. It will, however, be essential to listen to the views of people currently using the services of both Trusts to fully understand how the system is working for them now, as we would hope that future provision will be better. We welcome the news that regular engagement is planned.’
