Accessing healthcare in rural communities
Transport and a lack of availability of services in rural areas affect many people in Gloucestershire. Share your experiences with us.
Local people and health and social care professionals have shared some of these challenges with us:
- Accessing reliable community transport to attend appointments.
- Digital and online accessibility can be limited or a barrier to book appointments, and access additional support or services.
- Mobile phone signal. In many rural areas, it’s either limited or non-existent.
- People having a limited support network - no family, friends or access to regular carers if needed, due to being too rural or isolated.
- Most medical appointments require people to travel a long way - and with unreliable public transport, appointments are often missed or cancelled.
- Limited access to local community-based services clinics.
